Completed 105,000-liter GRP modular water tank on reinforced concrete plinth beams at a commercial laundry in Taguig

The Client

A commercial laundry operating a processing facility in Taguig City, Metro Manila. Laundry is water-hungry work: wash cycles stop when supply drops, so the facility needed a large reserve of feed water on site.

Requirements and Constraints

  • About 100 cubic meters of storage for laundry feed water.
  • Panels suitable for potable and process water contact.
  • The tank had to fit a long, narrow strip of the facility's existing concrete yard, which set the footprint at 14 m by 2.5 m.
  • Installation on an operating site, with no crane access.

Why 14 m x 2.5 m x 3 m

The available space was long and narrow, so the tank was laid out to the space rather than the other way round. At 3 m high and 14 m long the tank holds 105 cubic meters, slightly above the 100 cubic meter target, in a single compartment.

The TankSmith Solution

Foundation

The tank sits on 15 reinforced concrete plinth beams at 1 m centers, each spanning the 2.5 m tank width. The beams were cast on the existing concrete yard, with the reinforcing bars drilled and epoxy-anchored into the slab, and levelled before assembly.

Panel Assembly

The panel kit arrived in two deliveries and was assembled on site, tier by tier, without a crane. About 187 GRP panels in total, with stepped panel thickness from 14 mm at the base to 7 mm at the top, where the water pressure is lowest. Internal hardware is SS304 stainless steel; external bracing, tie rods and ladder are hot-dip galvanized steel. EPDM sealing gaskets were fitted at every panel joint.

Hot-dip galvanized tie rod joint on the outside of the GRP tank wall
Roof panels and manhole on top of the 105 m³ GRP tank

Connections

Four DN100 stainless steel flanged nozzles for inlet, outlet, overflow and drain.

Booster Pump Package

We also supplied the facility's pump package: a duplex booster pump set on a variable-speed (VFD) control panel, with a 1,000 L bladder tank, feeding the building from the tank.

Testing and Turnover

The tank was filled and hydrostatically tested, then turned over to the client with a witnessed sign-off, a certificate of completion and a certificate of warranty.
